Abandonment - 2020
The theme of my work is abandonment and the way in which objects hold the power to express feelings of neglect and vulnerability. In developing the project, I began to focus on objects associated with play and childhood. Objects that would normally be expressive of joy and imagination, when separated from their users, take on an atmosphere of sadness and broken relationships. Taking this further, I experimented with placing the objects in environments that heightened their sense of vulnerability – urban, desolate spaces that perhaps put us in mind of narratives involving threatening encounters. With the objects of childhood placed in these locations, we are reminded of the exposure to harm faced by the most vulnerable in our society.
Full project will be shown during the Private View on 2nd June.
